Run 5K
August 21, 2017August 21, 2017  by Lee Beem

Let’s Run a 5K … 3 Times: Marathon Training Journal Day 28

It’s fun run Sunday with a twist. I’ve been waiting for this Virtual 5K for a while now.  I am not a 5K runner and it is unlikely that I will ever love the 3.1 mile distance; it’s just not my thing. But I had three really good motivations for doing this one. So I […]

Slow Long Run

Slow Long Run – Marathon Training Journal: Day 26

I had a relaxed, slow long run day today. You know; my favorite day of the week.  I also like it because it precedes a rest day and after six days of training, I’m ready for my down time.  Don’t text. Don’t call. Just bring more wine. My legs are heavy and tired, but I’m […]

Speed Intervals

Speed Intervals and a Police Car -Training Journal

After a good night’s sleep, I woke up feeling like a million bucks.  Is it that simple? More sleep can do this?  If you’ve been following so far you don’t need to be told I dislike speed intervals. Today was hill repeats. I don’t mind hills. The advanced option on my training plan was to […]

Skipping a Run

Skipping a Run – Marathon Training Journal: Day 24

If you train consistently, skipping a run here and there can be a good thing.  Today I did just that. It was necessary to address the hypocrisy I’ve been oozing lately. Nearly through the fourth week of this training cycle and it’s always a good time to assess my strengths and weaknesses.  I’m always talking […]

Drills and Strides

Running Strides – Marathon Training Journal: Day 23

I prefer strides to fartlek workouts. I need the structure for speed work because if I can just sprint as far as I want, I will do as little as possible!  I’m lazy like that. Strides are very short distances run at a hard effort. I use my heart rate monitor and go for 90 […]

Training Journal Sunday Fun Run
August 14, 2017  by Lee Beem

Marathon Training Journal: Day 21 – Fun Run

There’s something about a run with no plan that is so liberating. It’s like being given free time. I get a similar feeling from my Sunday run (or runs, if I do two) as I do from my recovery day.  The difference is that I still get to run on a Sunday; or not run. […]

Training Journal Day 19 Long Run
August 14, 2017September 14, 2017  by Lee Beem

Long Run Friday -Marathon Training Journal: Day 19

My long run. And a real long run, not a short-long run.  This is the run that closes my third week of training. If you read yesterday’s post about the aborted hill sprint workout in a bid to save this one, I can tell you that it was worth it. What a fantastic close to […]

Marathon Training Journal: Day 17 – Double Run +1

A double run day with a cross training session between them. It’s days like this that make me wonder if the people who say I’m nuts have a point. The workouts aren’t the toughest part; it’s fitting them in around all the other responsibilities of the day.
